NBA Wins x2 at ASID Design Excellence Awards
Our interior design team virtually attended the ASID Georgia 2020 Design Excellence Awards via live Vimeo broadcast! This year, we were honored to receive two Bronze Awards for our work on EcoVest Capital corporate headquarters and Millennium Music Row, a mixed-use development. Read more about each project below:
Category: Corporate Under 20,000 sf
Project: EcoVest Capital
Client: Highwoods Properties
Our client, a next generation real estate company that believes “development opportunities should not be judged on economic viability alone, but that the responsible use and preservation of natural resources should be equally considered,” handed their above quoted mission statement to the team as a guiding principal for the project. As a firm that specializes in environmentally responsible investments, it was critical that their philosophy be evident throughout the new corporate office. Having outgrown their previous labyrinth-like space, the client truly wanted a complete change in environment that balanced the intersection between competing agendas for an open, fluid environment and necessary privacy due to the nature of their business.
Sustainability was at the forefront as waste, material choice, and re-usable elements were evaluated throughout the entire design process. This new corporate headquarters has a transparent, inviting office, reflective of the client’s environmentally responsible investment strategies, that also accommodates the confidential nature of their work. From the moment that employees and guests step into the elevator lobby, they are welcomed with an abundance of natural light. The lobby is anchored by a self-serve hospitality counter which doubles as a touchdown meeting zone, creating a welcoming hub of activity right at the entry. The narrow space was oriented with a “boomerang” shape, breaking sight lines to create greater discovery of strategic areas with specialty accents to anchor neighborhoods. The lobby’s recycled cork flooring transitions to carpet with an organic lichen-like pattern that “grows” throughout the space, highlighting the main paths of public travel. Active zones, including the café and flexible workspaces, are intertwined among the private neighborhoods, achieving the client-driven goal of improving culture and connectivity within the office.
Category: Multifamily Residential
Project: Millennium Music Row
Client: The Dinerstein Companies
The client directive was to create a funky, music-inspired residential property in the heart of Nashville’s entertainment district. The design team was challenged with taking a commonly used theme that could very easily feel kitsch, and instead create an exciting space worthy of the neighborhood’s rich and varied musical history. Targeted at musicians, entrepreneurs, and artists seeking community and connections while advancing careers and relationships, the property should feel like ‘home’ as it welcomes new residents to Music City.
Taking cues from the building’s exterior architecture, sharp contrast in color and simplicity of form are elements carried throughout the interior, creating a cohesive design for the entire project. Tailored to the uniqueness of Nashville with a design that is a “little bit country and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll,” this property delivers a music aesthetic worthy of its prominent location. Dark colors and daring patterns create a rich, hospitality vibe in all amenity spaces. Timeless, mid-century furniture elements are paired with pops of color to bring an unexpected, playful element. Specialty amenities, such as a sound-proof jam room tucked away from residential units, caters specifically to the desired resident mix. The urban community also offers a poolside lounge with gaming, dedicated coworking space with private conferencing, bike shop, and rooftop sky lounge with terrace that provides panoramic views of Nashville and the Vanderbilt campus. The client’s boundaries were expanded, with the resulting unique property being significantly pre-leased before it’s official opening. A true musical success!
