Sonder The Score
Nashville, Tennessee
Summary
NBA converted this former YWCA building—and the site of a home once owned by President James K. Polk—into a 55-unit residence for Sonder, the hospitality company which specializes in short-term rentals and extended stays. The team started with a point cloud survey, which uses a laser to produce an internal and external scan, to help create an accurate 3-D model of the Georgian Revival style building, which had fallen into serious disrepair. Some historical elements were maintained, like a terrazzo floor, mural, and ornate cast iron stair, but in the from-the-ground-up renovation, all existing walls and ceilings as well as a covered-up pool were demolished, exposing concrete slabs that became finished ceilings. The Score features a mix of primarily one and two bedroom contemporary apartments equipped with modern kitchens and in-suite-laundry.
